Yelp’s Passport to NuLu/Butchertown

For 5 entire days of awesomeness Yelp Louisville took over NuLu and Butchertown to show them the love! We had several stops along the way to add our stamp of approval in this Passport to NuLu/Butchertown. An 80′s Ballin’ Brunch, Mayan Cafe CMYE dinner, Meet the Meat Owner and Happy Hour, fabulously fun schwag, and shopping galore!

A Tasty Town

Three neighborhood restaurant hubs help illustrate why Louisville is becoming widely known as a ‘foodie’ community

Foodies tend to eschew chain restaurants and gravitate toward independently owned restaurants with creative menus offering consistently pleasing plates.

Earlier this year, Louisville was listed as one of the “best foodie getaways around the world” by Zagat Survey LLC, which ranks leisure activities such as dining, travel, nightlife, shopping, golf, theater, movies and music.

East Market to get makeover

$10 million from state funds improvements

The streetscape along East Market Street through the emerging NuLu neighborhood is due for a major makeover, primarily with $10 million recently approved by the Kentucky legislature in the state highway budget…

The state approval of the $10 million will be announced today by Mayor Greg Fischer and downtown officials at the second annual “State of Downtown” meeting at the Galt House. The event is sponsored by the Louisville Downtown Development Corp., which serves as Fischer’s lead agency on coordinating center city projects.

Although the legislature’s approval of the $10 million was largely kept under the radar, Fischer spokesman Chris Poynter said city officials, NuLu and Phoenix Hill neighborhood leaders and representatives of Nucleus (a University of Louisville affiliate) and other special interests lobbied the General Asssembly hard for the money. “It’s pretty exciting,” Poynter said. “We are looking at a complete new streetscape for the NuLu neighborhood.”

Pocket parks, tree clusters, innovative storm-water controls and converting one-way streets to two-way are recommended in a study as ways to best connect some diverse parts of the large neighborhood just east of downtown Louisville.
