NuLu Neighbor Spotlight: MusicWithMe

New neighbor, Music WithMe, moved into the 806 1/2 East Market Street location back in March. Michelle Jones, Music WithMe Community Manager, (also author of the popular blog Consuming Louisville) was kind enough to join us for a question and answer session about their new venture!

Q: What do you do?
A: We make Music WithMe, the best way to share music with your Facebook friends and Twitter followers. Music is (and has always been) part of our collective cultural conversation so we’re making it easy to bring music into the places we’re actually talking these days: social networks. Music WithMe also lets you wirelessly sync your iTunes library to your Android phone. Whenever you’re connected via wifi or your phone’s cellular connection you can get your music.
Q: What compelled you to move your offices to East Market Street?

A: We have a lot of foodies in our company so East Market is a great fit for us. We’re in close proximity to some of Louisville’s best restaurants (Mayan Cafe, Wiltshire on Market) and some of the most highly anticipated new restaurants (Harvest, Please and Thank You). Beyond just making our foodies happy this move has put us in the middle of the most exciting neighborhood in Louisville. New businesses seem to open here almost every week and existing businesses are getting better all the time.
Q: Favorite Thing About Working in the NuLu area?
A: For me personally it’s being able to walk to so many restaurants. It makes it possible to have “girls lunches” with friends during the work week. If you ask the guys in the office (I’m the lone woman in our company) I think their answer would be the Louisville Beer Store.

10.10.10

The EMDA held a Tree Well Clean-up & Planting event on Sunday, October 10, 2010 from 10:00am – 1:00pm. This event was held in conjunction with an international work day conceived by the non-profit 350.org (and locally encouraged by Louisville 10/10/10) to help address CO2 emissions and environmental issues. We were one of 16 work parties in Louisville (and one of 7,347 work parties in 188 countries). This work day fit into EMDA’s goal of improving the environmental health and pedestrian experience in our neighborhood.

Thirteen volunteers attended the event, allowing us to clean out eight tree wells in preparation for future planting, weed sidewalks and pick up trash along East Market. Due to a spontaneous contribution of flowering plants, we also planted purple and pink pansies in the front flower beds and pots of the Refuge in Kentucky Church.

A big thanks to the volunteers for taking time out of their busy schedules to make our little pocket of the world healthier and more beautiful!

NuLu Neighbor Spotlight: Hudson Home

Living ‘green’ just became easier and more attractive with the addition of Louisville’s newest retail store, Hudson Home. Owned by interior designer, Andrew Hudson, the sustainable design studio and boutique features new and vintage furniture that is hand-crafted and American-made.

The furniture and fabric lines available at Hudson Home are new to Louisville and include Cisco Brothers (described as the first furniture design company to create 100% FSC Pure sustainable, upholstered furniture), Custom Furniture & Cabinets (a line that uses salvaged wood from tear-down houses) and Traditions by Pamela Kline (offering bedding and home accessories inspired by vintage fabrics). Hudson Home is one of the few independent design studios, outside of New York City, to feature these lines which are typically carried by high-end retailers such as ABC Home Furnishings in Manhattan.

New Gallery in NuLu…Gebhardt Marshall Gallery

801 East Market Street, Corner of Shelby & E. Market

A high-end photography and painting gallery with the work of three primary artists on display; Kris Gebhardt, Angela Gebhardt, and Jarret Marshall.

The artistic entrepreneurs mix of work which includes Angela’s contemporary abstract, sketch, and figure paintings, coupled with Kris’ corporeal and gritty figure/body photography, will ad an element of spice to the Louisville market they hope will inspire people to think about their bodies and health.  Deeply passionate about promoting body awareness through the palette & lens, they create art that is physically and emotionally inspiring.  The couple are known for large format paintings up to 10’ and photographs as large as 40” by 60.”
